Integrins alpha1/beta1, alpha2/beta1, alpha10/beta1 and alpha11/beta1 are receptors for collagen. Integrins alpha1/beta1 and alpha2/beta2 recognize the prolinehydroxylated sequence GFPGER in collagen. Integrins alpha2/beta1, alpha3/beta1, alpha4/beta1, alpha5/beta1, alpha8/beta1, alpha10/beta1, alpha11/beta1 and alphaV/beta1 are receptors for fibronectin. Alpha4/beta1 recognizes one or more domains within the alternatively spliced CS1 and CS5 regions of fibronectin. Integrin alpha5/beta1 is a receptor for fibrinogen. Integrin alpha1/beta1, alpha2/beta1, alpha6/beta1 and alpha7/beta1 are receptors for lamimin. Integrin alpha4/beta1 is a receptor for VCAM1. It recognizes the sequence QIDS in VCAM1. Integrin alpha9/beta1 is a receptor for VCAM1, cytotactin and osteopontin. It recognizes the sequence AEIDGIEL in cytotactin. Integrin alpha3/beta1 is a receptor for epiligrin, thrombospondin and CSPG4. Alpha3/beta1 may mediate with LGALS3 the stimulation by CSPG4 of endothelial cells migration. Integrin alphaV/beta1 is a receptor for vitronectin. Beta1 integrins recognize the sequence RGD in a wide array of ligands. Isoform beta1B interferes with isoform beta1A resulting in a dominant negative effect on cell adhesion and migration (in vitro). In case of HIV1 infection, the interaction with extracellular viral Tat protein seems to enhance angiogenesis in Kaposi's sarcoma lesions.
